Vince Pace, a leader in 3D entertainment joined partner, director James "Terminator" Cameron, May 18 to participate in 3D Day during this year's Cannes Film Festival.

The two innovators of the 'PACE/Cameron Fusion' system, participated in the panel discussion via a Skype video call from Los Angeles where Cameron continues production on the upcoming 3D feature Avatar, with Pace serving as Director of Photography.

The 3D Day included two topic panels that were combined into one discussion, "New Dimensions for 3D: How Digital 3D Will Shape Movie Production and Distribution During The Next 20 yrs" and "New Technology Driving Digital 3D."

Misperceptions of 3D production were lifted as Cameron and Pace talked up the realities of the technology, its integration and the financial impact of stereoscopic film making.

Pace and Cameron started working together in 1988 on The Abyss.

Then in 2001, Cameron was determind to build a film franchise universe, similar to George Lucas' Star Wars, approaching Pace to help him develop 'the holy grail' of cameras.

The challenge was to design a stereoscopic acquisition system that would reinvent the entertainment experience by providing imagery that mimics human experience.

The two 'thought leaders' accomplished this feat by throwing out the mathematics that previously drove and hindered 3D production, replacing it with the first camera in the Fusion System line.

PACE credits include Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds concert film, U23D, AVATAR, Final Destination 4, Wild Ocean 3D, Ghosts of the Abyss, Aliens of the Deep, Spy Kids 3D and Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D

The PACE company is also noted for trail-blazing 3D sports exhibitions with three live 3D broadcasts utilizing dynamic systems via fiber and satellite links in partnership with the NBA...
